Monsters University Review

I've seen a lot of movies so far this summer, and I'm going to see a lot more. I can say one thing for certain, and that's the fact that Monsters University will be in my top 5 movies of the summer  year. As a huge fan of Disney and Pixar films ever since I was child (like everyone else.....duh!), this film not only met my expectations, it completely exceeded them! It is an awesome throwback to the original Monsters Inc. The film follows Mike and Sully as they enroll as freshman in the Monsters University "Scaring Program," hoping to graduate and work as "Scarers" so that they can work for Monsters Inc and help power their world with the screams of children. John Goodman, Billy Crystal, and Steve Buscemi return to voice and bring life to their respective characters. It's amazing that all three of these actors are all above the age of 50 and make it believable that they could voice much younger characters, and make them seem young. I also liked the addition to new characters to the franchise. One character in particular (voiced by Helen Mirren; Dean Amelia Hardscrabble. Dear God, this monster was terrifying. She has the head, torso, and wings of a dragon, and the body of a centipede...

Amelia Hardscrabble, Dean of the Scaring Program
Henry J. Waternoose III, CEO of Monsters Incorporated.
Enough said. She was obviously there to replace the Waternoose character (you know the CEO, crab thing from the first film) Of course, the "antagonistic" character has to be at least somewhat freaky looking, especially in a world inhabited by a bunch of monsters. I honestly think I was more scared of her than I was of Waternoose when I saw Monsters Inc. when I was 10 years old. I laughed so hard at some parts that I was almost crying (Pixar is good at doing that). Some parts even had me on the edge of my seat with my heart racing. If you are a fan of the first film, Disney/Pixar films, or anyone that just enjoys great movies; Monsters University is a must see for anyone of all ages.

Film Rating: 9.5/10
